Warrior Swing Dance Community owners are Marie and Peter Welton. Swing Dance Surrey started in 1998 with 4 ambitious Lindy Hop dancers under the name Crescent Beach Swing Kids. In 2000 the name changed to Sweet Swing BC and in 2008 it changed to Jump Joint Swing. In August 2019 it changed to Swing Dance Surrey. Post Covid in JULY 2021, we changed to Warrior Swing Dance Fellowship reflecting our commitment to Social Dance Wellness and August 2023 we changed our name to Warrior Swing Dance Community to show our commitment to grow our own local swing dance community.

This video is a great example of Social Swing Dancing in the 1940s.

What is Dance Wellness? It is the ability to move your body with physical strength agility and flexibility and with mental alertness being primarily motivated to dance by the joy of responding to the music with movement while enjoying the thrill of dancing in harmony with others. Every class starts with a dance warm-up. I am so excited for you to learn swing dance with us. You are a truly wonderful, amazing person.

TESTIMONIES

Feb 2019 Marie’s  Lindy Hop dances and lessons are in the “BEST” category.  She is amazing. You will learn the basic 8 count swing-out  (Real Lindy) in short order at the first event you attend & that is a rare find in this city.  Marie is very friendly, competent and experienced.  Her dedication to her students is extraordinary.  Great place to learn & practice Lindy swing. 2020 I love music and love dancing. This dance class was in a relaxed atmosphere that learning was very much supported.  You, all made the dance class fun and enjoyable, so as we all could learn the steps at each of our pace. You always gave encouragement and inspiration to be become better at the dance. Thank you for that! Had such a great time. A great class to learn how to swing dance. (: Cindy Vanderbyl
